Our History
St Mary’s Millennium Centre is a Community Centre on the grounds of the beautiful Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, of West Derby Village. A Grade 2 listed building in the Gothic style, the Church was completed and opened in 1856.
The Millennium Centre itself began as an idea many years ago but did not begin to progress until late 1991 when a working party was formed to produce a feasibility report for a Community Centre in West Derby.
After a lot of hard work by a number of individuals and assistance from the Church, the Trustees of the old Village Hall, the Millennium Fund and parishioners, the funding was put in place to proceed with the project.
The Community Centre was dedicated by the Bishop of Liverpool on Sunday 29th October 2000 and was finally opened for business by HRH Duchess of Gloucester on 2nd May 2001.
